  26. 1. ABOUT WORD TRANSLATOR FOR WINDOWS

  28. Word Translator for Windows is the bilingual, bi-directional word/phrase
  29. dictionary and translation program used all over the world for teaching,
  30. learning and working with languages. With it, you can quickly and easily
  31. translate individual words and phrases or even complete documents
  32. word-by-word and phrase-by-phrase from English to another language or
  33. from another language to English. Word Translator for Windows uses the
  34. most advanced state-of-the-art computer algorithms to achieve the fastest
  35. dictionary access of any program of its kind anywhere. Word Translator's
  36. modest system requirements, memory-resident capabilities, ease of use,
  37. intelligent interface and fast operation have already made it a favorite

  139. 2. SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS

  141. To allow you to both successfully install and use this shareware
  142. version of Word Translator for Windows, your computer must be an
  143. IBM-PC/XT/AT, or be 100% IBM compatible (or an "IBM clone") and have:

  145. > Windows 3.1 or higher (purchased separately)
  146. > A hard disk with approximately 1 MB of free space
  147. > A mouse is highly recommended
  148. > A printer supported by Windows 3.1 or later
  149. > Use of one of the major Windows word processing programs--
  150.   Word for Windows, WordPerfect for Windows or AmiPro (purchased
  151.   separately) is highly recommended and REQUIRED for Russian, Serbian
  152.   Cyrillic and Polish dictionary modules.

  155. 3. ".EXE" FILES INCLUDED WITH RUSSIAN, SERBIAN CYRILLIC, POLISH,
  156.    CROATIAN AND SERBIAN LATIN VERSIONS
  157.  
  158. Russian, Serbian Cyrillic, Polish, Croatian and Serbian Latin dictionary
  159. versions install a CODE.EXE or CODE_KBD.EXE file in the "default" WINTRAN
  160. directory. This CODE.EXE or CODE_KBD.EXE file will extract a file named
  161. CODE.WRI or CODE_KBD.WRI (in Windows Write format) that contains pictures
  162. of EITHER the three parts of the Windows Cyrillic or East European Code
  163. Page (IBM Code Page 1251 or IBM Code Page 1250) that you may print just
  164. as you would print any other ".WRI" file and use as a reference. The
  165. CODE_KBD.EXE file installed with Polish, Croatian and Serbian Latin and
  166. Serbian Cyrillic versions will also contain alternative keyboard layouts
  167. that you may want to use as a reference to change the keyboard layout.

  169. Russian versions also contain PHONETIC.EXE, RUS_FED.EXE and AATSEEL.EXE
  170. files that are installed in the "default" WINTRAN directory. The extracted
  171. PHONETIC.EXE, RUS_FED.EXE and AATSEEL.EXE files ALL create RUSENG.KBD and
  172. ENGRUS.KBD files which, in turn, (when copied to your WINTRAN directory
  173. to REPLACE (overwrite) existing files of the SAME NAME) will change your
  174. Russian Keyboard Layout to either the PHONETIC/HOMOPHONIC, RUSSIAN
  175. FEDERATION or AATSEEL (American Association of Teachers of Slavic and
  176. East European Languages) Keyboard Layout.

  179. 4. EXTRACTING FILES FROM AN ".EXE" FILE
  180.  
  181. Go to File Manager and find the "default" WINTRAN directory. Locate
  182. the ???.EXE file you wish to extract and double-click DIRECTLY
  183. on the ???.EXE file name in your Windows File Manager window -- OR --
  184. From the C:\> prompt, type CD space and the name of the directory
  185. containing the ???.EXE file (WINTRAN) and press the <enter> key. At
  186. the C:\WINTRAN> prompt, type the name of the ???.EXE file (e.g.
  187. CODE.EXE) and press the <enter> key. The ???.EXE file will self-extract
  188. on to your hard disk in the WINTRAN directory containing the ???.EXE
  189. file. With the PHONETIC.EXE, RUS_FED.EXE and AATSEEL.EXE files, you
  190. will be prompted to type y (for yes) or n (for no) to OVERWRITE
  191. existing files of the SAME name. To change to a different keyboard,
  192. type y (for yes).

  244. 6. INSTALLING WORD TRANSLATOR FROM INSIDE WINDOWS

  246. A. Insert the Word Translator for Windows Shareware disk into your
  247.    A (or B) drive and open Windows.
  248. B. Choose RUN from the Windows Program Manager FILE menu. A COMMAND
  249.    LINE window will appear.
  250. C. For the COMMAND LINE type: a:\setup (or b:\setup) and press
  251.    the <enter> key.
  252. D. Carefully follow the on-screen installation instructions.
  253. E. Installing Word Translator for Windows will create a new
  254.    Word Translator program group window containing a Word
  255.    Translator icon, Word Translator Manual icon, Product & Ordering
  256.    Information icon, Read Me icon and--with Russian, Polish, Croatian
  257.    Serbian Cyrillic and Serbian Latin dictionary modules--a Text
  258.    Converter icon.
